It looks like there will be no shortage of superhero shows with HBO Max apparently greenlighting projects on Zatanna and Batgirl. The two DC comics characters will be getting their own projects, which will air on the HBO streaming platform.
This further expands the number of DC projects at Warner Bros., which includes Black Adam, The Batman and The Flash amongst others. Batgirl was initially set to be a live-action movie with Joss Whedon producing. However, following creative differences, that project was shelved. It is not known if the Batgirl adaptation will now be a live-action film or series.
The same applies to the Zatanna project, although this will likely be a series. The character was first created in 1964 and has eventually grown into one of DC’s main characters. Zatanna has featured prominently in several DC animated films as well as on the series, Smallville. Serinda Swan portrayed the character in that series.
Batgirl and Zatanna will join several new projects that are currently being developed by HBO Max. Currently the streamer is developing a Peacemaker spinoff. The series will see John Cena reprising the role from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. There is also a Gotham City PD spinoff, which will follows The Batman film currently being directed by Matt Reeves.
