As we wait for the first trailer or even teaser for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to drop, we’re somewhat curious as to how the extended DC film universe is going to play out in the next several years. We already know who the major players are for the main film as well as the Justice League superhero ensemble scheduled for 2017 but one notable and pivotal character has been missing thus far.
With mainstay characters Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) already locked down, we have yet to learn who will portray the Green Lantern. The Emerald Knight has been one of the core members of the superhero group in all its incarnations but it would seem that Warner Bros. is taking their time casting this particular role as a possible result of the 2011 flop starring Ryan Reynolds.
But as interest heats up, there’s been speculation as of late on the actor who will represent the Green Lantern corps in the new film and whether or not it will be original Lantern, Hal Jordan or John Stewart. We’re torn between the two but we can’t say that the recent names have piqued our interest…
Young Cap’n Kirk was one of the front runners for 2011’s Green Lantern before it ultimately went to Reynolds. Although lucking out four years ago, Pine is one of the favourites to play the Green Lantern in DC’s new extended universe. And we do think he has the chops to pull off being the new Hal Jordan.
There is also a chance that the new Green Lantern could be represented by Jon Stewart, which is why there are two actors vying for the role. One of which is Common who, like Pine, was also linked to a DC project titled Justice League: Mortal, which was being planned back in 2007 before the writer’s strike cancelled out the project. Is second time the charm for Common?
Campaigning for roles is now common place in Hollywood and it has worked wonders for a number of actors including Channing Tatum who snagged the role of Gambit after announcing his interest on social media. Fast & Furious star Tyrese Gibson is following suit by campaigning for the role of Jon Stewart and his fans seem to think he’s a good fit for the role.
Who of these three actors do you think should play the Green Lantern? Or do you think Ryan Reynolds deserves another chance to salvage the character, even though he’s in the Marvel camp at the moment playing Deadpool (it worked for Ben Affleck, after all). Let’s see who wields the emerald ring in Justice League Part 1 when it hits theatres November, 2017 and in the Green Lantern Reboot which is scheduled for summer 2020.
