It looks like Seth Rogen and James Franco’s The Interview is garnering more trouble than anything else for Sony. In addition to a recent hack, which leaked thousands of documents, films and emails, several threats have also been made against cinemas that are scheduled to screen the film. In fact, the recent threats have also forced both Rogen and Franco to cancel all their media interviews and appearances to promote the film and it’s even resulted in The Interview getting canned. It looks like The Interview is going to be a very expensive and bothersome lesson for Sony, which will likely trouble them for some time.
PIRATES SET FOR A REBOOT?
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is currently firming up its cast and we know that the production has already secured Johnny Depp to return as Jack Sparrow and they’ve also signed on Brenton Thwaites as well as Javier Bardem, who will reportedly be portraying the villain. We’ve also heard that former franchise star Orlando Bloom may be returning to the fold as well. “I’m not entirely sure that [I’ll be back] just yet, but there are talks,” said Bloom in an interview recently. “Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son.” Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is scheduled for a July 2017 release.
A DJANGO AND ZORRO MOVIE?
Django Unchained and Zorro universes could collide in the near future for an epic crossover. Although the idea seems ludicrous, there’s actually a comic-book on both characters, which was made possible with the help of Quentin Tarantino. If this rumour is indeed true, we could see the premise of the book serve as inspiration for the film, which will be a straight follow-up from Django Unchained. In the comic book, the story is set several years after the events of Django Unchained with both Django and Broomhilda journeying to the west where they meet Diego de la Vega, who masquerades as the vigilante known as Zorro.
DISNEY’S INDIANA JONES
Despite the marketing wheels turning on the new Star Wars films, Disney hasn’t forgotten about its Indiana Jones franchise. “We’d love to make another Indiana Jones movie but we’re pacing ourselves right now, launching Star Wars first,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger during a recent interview. Although it’s an interesting thought to entertain, fact of the matter is, Harrison Ford is 78-years-old and he would probably be too old for another romp as Indy. Depending on how fast Disney moves on Indiana Jones, in all likelihood, this one may well be a reboot.
JURASSIC WORLD’S D-REX
Director Colin Trevorrow has revealed a little bit more about his upcoming Jurassic Park sequel, specifically the lead villain dubbed the D-Rex. According to the director, the D-Rex in Jurassic World isn’t actually a dinosaur but a monstrosity developed from the DNA of a number of animal species. “There are dinosaurs and there’s the other…There’s this thing that is not one of them, that is not of them,” the director told Entertainment Weekly. “There are a lot of bold new ideas in the movie and I’m pushing it as far forward as I can. I know Steven (Spielberg) didn’t want me to make a carbon copy of the earlier films. So we’re going for it.”
