After over thirty years it looks like we might actually see a sequel to Coming to America being made. According to a recent interview with Deadline, star Eddie Murphy said that he is thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.” According to reports, the story for the sequel may centre on Prince Akeem returning to America to find his long lost son.
Netflix Announces Animated Anthology Series
David Fincher (Mindhunter) and Tim Miller (Deadpool) have come together to create an animated anthology series for Netflix. Love, Death & Robots, will consist of 5-15 minute long animated shorts that will span across genres ranging from science fiction to fantasy, horror and comedy. There will reportedly be eighteen shorts, which are also executive produced by Jennifer Miller and Josh Donen are set to debut on Netflix sometime this year.
Dave Bautista Joins Dune
Former WWE star turned actor, Dave Bautista has just added another big project under his belt by snagging a role in Dune. Bautista will reunite with director Denis Villeneuve who is helming the remake. Both men previously collaborated on Blade Runner 2049. Dune is based on the acclaimed sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert, and will star Timothée Chamalet as young hero Paul Atreides, who leads a rebellion on the desert planet Arrakis. Bautista will reportedly play “Beast” Rabban, the sadistic nephew of a baron who oversees the planet.
Venom Sequel Officially In The Works
Sony may be still counting the money it made from its standalone superhero/villain adventure, Venom, but it has found time to already work on a sequel. The Venom-verse looks to be expanding at Sony and they have the movie’s original co-writer, Kelly Marcel working on a script. The Venom sequel will see Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams return to reprise their roles as Eddie Brock and Anne Weying but director Ruben Fleischer will be sitting the sequel out due to his commitments with Zombieland 2.
First Look: The Young Pope
HBO has revealed the first look at the upcoming series, The Young Pope starring Jude Law. The follow-up series of The New Pope also sees John Malkovich joining the cast. Law reprises his role as Pope Pius XIII from the 2017 series, which will run for ten episodes. The Young Pope also features returning cast members Silvio Orlando, Javier Cámara, Cécile de France, Ludivine Sagnier, and Maurizio Lombardi. The series will roll-out across territories globally sometime later this year.
