Good news for Star Wars fans because production has officially started on Star Wars Episode VIII. Disney and Lucasfilm made the official announcement with regards to the Rian Johnson helmed film, which is set to open at the end of 2017. The studios also confirmed the return of cast members, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. Star Wars Episode VIII will also welcome Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern into the universe as well. Star Wars fans in the meantime can look forward to Rogue One, which will be released in Dec this year.
Death House
Taking a page out of The Expendables, film’s horror icons look set to come together on the big screen for an unprecedented project. Horror icons, Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Danny Trejo, Dee Wallace, Bill Moseley and more are scheduled to appear in Death House, which will reportedly by an ‘Area 51 of Evil’. The film will revolve around agents discovering a hidden facility that houses the world’s most heinous criminals, many of whom are with supernatural abilities. Death House will reportedly be released sometime next year.
The Predator Arrives
Shane Black’s Predator sequel has a name and it’s called The Predator. The official Facebook page of the film revealed the poster which sees the Predator with a tagline saying ‘You’ll Never See Him Coming.’ Black is serving as director of the film, which could be a direct sequel to the first film. Incidentally, Black lent his expertise in the penning the screenplay to the original film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and even had a supporting role as well. The Predator is currently in development.
Van Helsing TV Series
SyFy is going ahead and prepping for a new Van Helsing TV series, which will start production sometime in late February. The series, based on the fictional vampire hunter has been evidently tweaked to cater to a new audience. For starters, the titular character will now be a female and she will be played by former True Blood actress, Kelly Overton. The series will be based in the future with the vampires in power. Orton plays Vanessa Helsing, who leads a human resistance in a battle for survival.
Ron Howard Directs Pinocchio
Academy Award winning director Ron Howard has been tapped to direct Warner Bros.’ adaptation of Pinocchio. The project which stars Robert Downey Jr as Geppetto had Tim Burton and Paul Thomas Anderson linked to the director’s seat but it seems that the production has now settled on Howard to literally be the man who pulls all the strings together. The long-gestating project has been in pre-development since 2012 but with a new director at the helm, we may well see Pinocchio make its release date in 2017.
