IDRIS ELBA FOR BOND?
The fallout of the recent Sony hack continues, this time with the revelation that Sony Pictures’ Studio Head Amy Pascal was heavily tipping Idris Elba to be the next James Bond. The email correspondence was dated early January 2014 between Pascal and a former executive of Columbia Pictures, which distributed the Bond films. Elba himself admitted in a Reddit AMA that he would be keen to take on the mantle of 007 but it looks like he has to wait a while as Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role in Spectre and possibly another follow-up film thereafter as he has been signed on for a total of five Bond movies by MGM.
PEE WEE GOES TO NETFLIX
It looks as if we haven’t seen the last of Pee Wee Herman as NetFlix is in talks to distribute the film. The next Pee Wee adventure will see Paul Reubens reprise his role as the enigmatic man-child with Judd Apatow rumoured to be producing. No plot details have yet been revealed but if NetFlix does ink the distribution deal, then production for Pee Wee Herman’s next adventure could begin as early as the first quarter of 2015. The film is scheduled to be released in 2016.
BEETLEJUICE 2
It has been 26 years since we saw Beetlejuice but both Tim Burton and Michael Keaton haven’t given up on a sequel to the film. In a recent interview, the director offered his thoughts on Beetlejuice 2 and claimed that both Keaton and Winona Ryder should and would appear in the follow-up to the smash hit. However he was also quick to point out that the Beetlejuice project may not entirely be a direct sequel. “There’s a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I’m excited about it but I wouldn’t call it so much a sequel,” said the director. “But it’ll have some characters from the original Beetlejuice. It’s a bit too early to say but it’s definitely something that’s on my radar and something I’d love to do.”
TRANSFORMERS 5 ROLLING SOON?
Despite many fans dissing Transformers: Age of Extinction, the fourth instalment to the franchise managed to reel in USD1 billion at this year’s box-office. With such stellar numbers, it comes as no surprise that Paramount Studios and Hasbro want to do another. Recently, a spate of activity revealed from a Hasbro presentation revealed that Transformers 5 will be released in 2017 prior to two animated projects being released in 2015 and 2016. “Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more. I can’t speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we’re going to be on the set soon,” said Mark Wahlberg during a recent interview but it remains to be seen if Director Michael Bay wants to take another stab at the franchise he helped make famous.
