TGV Cinemas, one of Malaysia’s leading exhibitors and multiplex cinema operators is collaborating with Twentieth Century Fox to prepare movie goers to join the fight against the impending alien invasion in the upcoming sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence. There will be a free screening of the original Independence Day movie, which was released in 1996. The film will be screened at selected TGV Cinemas nationwide starting on 11th, 12th, 18th and 19 June 2016.
Independence Day was reviewed then in late 90s as the most spectacular and intriguing sci-fi thriller since the Star Wars trilogy. Many may not recall, but 20 years ago, the movie shattered the box office records and became the year’s top-grossing film globally. The movie has also won best visual effects in the Oscars that same year.
Co-written and directed by Roland Emmerich, starred Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Mary McDonnell. The movie focuses on a disparate group of people who, in the aftermath of a destructive alien attack, team up and counterattack on July 4, same date as the United States Independence Day to save the world from alien invasion.
“The movie was exhilarating and one of the biggest disaster genres in the 90s. The free screening will be an opportunity for those who have watched it to experience it once again on big screen. Besides, it also allows the younger generation to have a better understanding of the fight in 1996 and the invasion in the upcoming sequel Independence Day: Resurgence,” said Celeste Koay, Head of Marketing Services of TGV Cinemas.
“During the screening, moviegoers stand a chance to win Independence Day: Resurgence sneak preview tickets. These lucky winners will be watching the movie 2 days before everyone else on 21st June 2016,”added Koay.
Movie goers who wish to attend the screening may collect their tickets at the cinemas’ dedicated ticketing counters one hour prior to the movie.
