Yet another big screen film could be given the small screen treatment with a War of the Worlds TV series in development at MTV. According to reports, the series is being put together by the same team who brought Teen Wolf to television.
War of the Worlds could potentially be a big project as it involves a global alien invasion and what ensues after the initial wave. The series was adapted from a book by H.G. Wells and it was famously known for causing panic in the late 30s following a radio show narrated by Orson Welles, which recounted an alien invasion.
Most recently, War of the Worlds was given a modern adaptation by Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise. Although having a series based on the film and book could prove intriguing, it also bears similarities to other alien invasion series like Falling Skies and films like Independence Day.
It will be interesting to see how the War of the Worlds TV series will differ from these franchises, especially since the aliens falter after being infected with earth’s bacteria and microorganisms.
