The first look at Sony Pictures’ Venom adaptation showcases Tom Hardy pretty much not doing anything super heroic at all. In fact, if you want to watch the Venom character in action, its best to wait for the film (or the next proper full length trailer) or re-watch Spider-Man 3.
That is pretty much the disappointing outing for the first look at the upcoming standalone superhero adventure. In fact, without much of an appearance of the symbiote (except that one scene where its apparently kept in some containment unit), the Venom film looks like any run of the mill action thriller featuring some neurotic or possessed lead character.
The official synopsis spells a different story, but its generic as far as synopsis go, telling pretty much what the first teaser trailer reveals, which is f*ck all. It reads as follows…
One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
As most fans already know, the Venom film is not connected to the Spider-Man universe, which is odd, seeing that he sports a giant spider logo on his chest. How will they explain that one remains to be seen but this has ‘disappointment’ written all over it.
Alongside Hardy, Venom also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott. Venom opens in cinemas in October 2018.
