The long-gestating Twins sequel, Triplets appears to have suffered a loss of momentum. The follow-up to the 1988 smash hit comedy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito was reportedly ready to be green lit especially after Eddie Murphy reportedly joined the project. However now it’s been revealed that Universal Pictures has hit the proverbial pause button on the film.
This bit of news was revealed by Josh Gad during a recent Reddit Interview promoting The Wedding Ringer. “The script is done,” said Gad with regards to the film Triplets. “We wound up doing two drafts. Universal, I think, hit the pause button temporarily for whatever reason – internally I think they are trying to figure out if they want to do a sequel or not,” he added.
According to Gad, his take on the sequel would involve twins Julius and Vincent growing apart after the developments after the first film. But both men soon find a spark to bring them together when they find out that they have a long-lost third sibling, which was to be played by Eddie Murphy.
In light of this development, it may seem that Universal is experiencing cold feet or in fact soured on a Twins sequel. There’s no denying that Schwarzenegger and Murphy weren’t as bankable as they once were and Triplets could end up being a very expensive film for Universal with minimal gains.
Are you bummed out that Triplets might not be made? Or do you think that Twins should have ended where it did?
