Warner Bros. is apparently working on a prequel to Training Day, the 2001 gritty crime drama, starring Denzel Washington. According to details reported by several news sites, the new film is a prequel to the hit movie, set sometime in the early 90s at the height of the Los Angeles riots.
Training Day, which was directed by Antoine Fuqua, told the story of crooked cop Alonzo Harris (Washington) who had to take on a rookie detective (Ethan Hawke). The screenplay of the film was penned by David Ayer, and incidentally, Washington’s performance in the film bagged him an Oscar, so needless to say expectations are riding high on this one.
This isn’t the first time Training Day has been the subject of a do-over of sorts. In 2017, CBS aired a Training Day series starring Bill Paxton and Justin Cornwell, which lasted for a season.
