Rumours are swirling that Summit Entertainment wants Tom Cruise to star in their upcoming Highlander reboot. According to reports, the studio wants Cruise specifically to take on the role of Juan Ramirez, which was played by Sean Connery in the original.
In the 1986 film, Ramirez was a mentor to Connor McLeod, who was played by Christopher Lambert. No word yet if Cruise is even keen on the role but it should be worth mentioning that the Highlander reboot has had some development issues thus far.
For starters, Ryan Reynolds who was initially tapped to play the lead departed the project last year. Justin Lin who was earmarked to direct the reboot has now assumed the role of Executive Producer. Still, it would be interesting to see if this reimagining of the Highlander franchise takes off this time around because the premise is indeed interesting.
The original Highlander had a soundtrack by Queen, a tonne of sword fights and depicted a century’s long battle between immortals, who all literally wanted to take each other’s heads off. Now, who wouldn’t want to see that?
