The live-action remake train is chugging along at Disney with the announcement of Mary Poppins Returns. The remake-sequel based in the 1964 classic will star Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The original film featured Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. Disney has confirmed that the film, which will be directed by Rob Marshall will released in late December 2018. No word yet on what route Mary Poppins Returns will take other than Blunt slipping into the shoes of the beloved fictional nanny.
Alita: Battle Angel Opening Date
The upcoming Alita: Battle Angel adaptation will be released by 20th Century Fox in July 2018. Based on current release dates that have been confirmed, the film will have an entire week to itself, which should do Fox favours at the box-office. It’s only competition will be Warner Bros’ Aquaman which is scheduled to hit cinemas a week later. Alita: Battle Angel will be helmed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron. Based on those two credentials and the rich source of material that Battle Angel has, it would seem that Fox has a sizeable box-office hit on its hands.
Lex Luthor Returns To Justice League
Jesse Eisenberg has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Lex Luthor in Justice League Part 1, which is currently in production. Presently the film promises to be the biggest DC/Warner Bros. production put together as it boasts an ensemble cast made up of Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill), Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, J.K Simmons and Jeremy Irons. Justice League Part 1 is currently being filmed in London and is scheduled for a November 2017 release, Justice League Part 2 is scheduled for a release June 2019.
Transformers 5 Villain Revealed
Hold on to your Hasbro toys boys and girls because Michael Bay has revealed who the new villain of Transformers: The Last Knight will be. In a recent Instagram post, the director made the big reveal and it’s none other than Megatron. The news is a bit of a let-down considering that Optimus Prime rocketed off to space looking for the creators of the Transformers race. It will also be interesting to see how Bay weaves Megatron into the storyline considering the character was remade into Galvatron in Age of Extinction.
Sicario Sequel
Sicario was one of the best films of 2015 and it’s not surprising to hear that a sequel is being mooted. The follow-up to the film is titled Soldado, which is Spanish for soldier and it will reportedly centre of Benicio Del Toro’s character from the first film. Josh Brolin will return to reprise his role as well but Emily Blunt will not return for the sequel. There will also be a new man at the helm with Stefano Sollima likely stepping in to replace director Denis Villenueve.
