It looks like Star Wars’ fan-favourite bounty hunter; Boba Fett will be getting his own standalone adventure with James Mangold. The Logan director has been tapped to write and direct the Lucasfilm standalone adventure. The Star Wars spinoff is still in developmental stages at this point with the probability of the film being made depending largely on the success of Solo, which is currently in cinemas. The Boba Fett film has been teased for a while with directors such as Josh Trank and Simon Kinberg attached to helm the film.
Jake Gyllenhaal Joins Spider-Man: Homecoming 2
Although he was linked to replace Ben Affleck as the Batman, it looks like Jake Gyllenhaal will lend his talents to another superhero franchise instead. The actor is set to portray the villain Mysterio in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Mysterio is one of Spider-Man’s most established villains and its pleasing to see the filmmakers go on this route to introduce the other villains in the Spidey-verse. Tom Holland is expected to return as the wall-crawler for this sequel which will arrive in cinemas in early July 2019.
Halle Berry Joins John Wick 3
Oscar winner Halle Berry has joined the cast of John Wick 3 in a lead female role. Lionsgate has assembled a pretty impressive cast for the third and possibly last chapter of this action trilogy. Joining Berry and star Keanu Reeves are Anjelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillion and Mark Dacascos as characters from the High Table. John Wick 3 will see the titular character on the run from the High Table. Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and Laurence Fishburne are also set to return for the sequel, which will hit cinemas in May 2019.
Here’s The Shazam! Costume
Although we haven’t really had a good look at the Shazam! costume, star Zachary Levi has shared one of the best looks so far at the upcoming DC movie. In a social media post, Levi is standing next to a promo poster featuring himself in costume. We’re not quite sold on the film, especially when factoring in the tonality and continuation issues of the DCEU. Judging by this poster with Shazam! sipping a soda, this DC superhero film is suggesting a lighter tone compared to other DCEU films we’ve seen thus far.
LEGO Movie 2 Title Revealed
“Prepare for the second part. #TheLEGOMovie2”. That’s the official Tweet that was sent out for the LEGO Movie sequel, which is basically titled LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. Although there isn’t much creativity behind the title (or the logo, which is essentially the same), fans are definitely excited about the sequel. The LEGO Movie was released five years ago and was an incredible box-office hit. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part comes to cinemas in February 2019.
Michael Bay To Direct For Netflix
One of the most commercially successful directors in the world will be heading to Netflix. Michael Bay who has helmed films such as Transformers and Bad Boys will now helm the actioner Six Underground for the streaming service. The production seems to be coming along pretty nicely with Skydance co-producing the feature with Ryan Reynolds headlining. Filming for the action film will begin this summer with a worldwide 2019 premiere exclusively on the streaming channel.
