Streaming service Hulu is looking to expand their line-up of Marvel shows in the years ahead. So far they have announced a Ghost Rider and a Helstrom series to complement their slate of Marvel shows, which currently includes Marvel’s Runaways. Hulu has also lined up Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show and Marvel’s Howard The Duck. Interestingly, the Ghost Rider series will centre on the new Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) and will be played by Gabriel Luna. The actor played Reyes in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but the new show will not be connected to this timeline.
Oscar-nominated director John Singleton passed away last week. The Oscar-nominated director suffered a stroke and was on life support. He was 51. A talented director, Singleton gained recognition for his 1991 film, Boyz in the Hood. Later on he would go on to produce a number of diverse films including Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, Rosewood and the Shaft remake starring Samuel L. Jackson. He also helmed blockbusters such as 2 Fast 2 Furious and Four Brothers. The later part of his career, Singleton lent his talents to television projects such as Empire, American Crime Story and Billions.
Dastmalchian Is The Polka-Dot Man
James Gunn is assembling a diverse cast of characters for his upcoming take of The Suicide Squad. The director recently signed on Ant-Man actor, David Dastmalchian to play the Polka-Dot Man. Gunn will also be introducing new characters into the DC film such as Ratcatcher, Peacemaker and King Shark. The Suicide Squad film will see Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis reprise their roles as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang and Amanda Waller respectively. Both Idris Elba and John Cena have also joined the production in unspecified roles.
Beasts 3 Delayed
Fans of the Harry Potter prequel franchise, Fantastic Beasts will have to wait a while longer to see the third instalment to the film. Fantastic Beasts 3 will now open in cinemas in mid-November 2021, a full-year after its initial release date. The delay is said to largely to focus on production, and to ensure a tighter film. The Crimes of Grindewald under performed for Warner Bros. pulling just over USD653 billion at the box-office compared to Fantastic Beasts’ haul of USD814 million. Director, David Yates is returning to helm the third film.
Peter Mayhew, best known for bringing Chewbacca to life, has passed away at age 74. The actor has played the world famous Wookie several times throughout history ranging from the original trilogy to the prequels and also the recent iteration of the franchise. He last played Chewy in J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens. Health issues however forced him to relinquish the role to Joonas Suotamo for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Rise of Skywalker. Mayhew’s contribution to pop culture and his presence in Star Wars will never be forgotten.
