Dwayne Johnson has officially landed his biggest and most desired role, playing Hawaiian King Kamehameha in a film set to be directed by Robert Zemeckis. Johnson should prove the ideal man for the job with his amazing box-office track record plus the fact he looks the part. The film will be developed by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros with a script written by Braveheart writer, Randall Wallace. The film, titled ‘The King’ will go into production sometime in 2020.
Top Gun: Maverick Delayed
The long-awaited sequel to Top Gun will be delayed by a year. Paramount Pictures has announced that Top Gun: Maverick will now take off in June 2020, almost a full year from its original release date planned for July 2019. The film will see Tom Cruise reprise his role as hot shot fighter pilot, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. The sequel will also see Val Kilmer return as Iceman along with new cast members, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris. Helming Top Gun: Maverick is Oblivion director, Joseph Kosinski.
A Quiet Place 2 Confirmed
Hollywood loves a good hit, especially one that is able to generate a sequel. This is why we have A Quiet Place 2, which has been confirmed for a release in 2020. The smart and scary horror drama, directed by John Krasinski generated over USD300 million at the box-office, on a budget of USD17 million. The film starring Krasinski and real-life wife Emily Blunt, told the story of a family living in complete silence in the woods so as to not attract mysterious creatures that roam nearby. Krasinski will be involved in some way or form for A Quiet Place 2.
Big Trouble in Little China Update
It looks like Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming remake of Big Trouble in Little China will be a continuation of the film. Initially thought of as a reboot of the original, it is now being reported that the film will see Johnson continuing the story of Jack Burton, who was played by Kurt Russell. This of course could pave the way from an appearance from Russell, but the biggest issue at the moment is Johnson’s packed film schedule. The action star currently has Jungle Cruise, Hobbs and Shaw as well as Red Notice on his list.
Wile E. Coyote Movie in the Works
Although Space Jam 2 is on the Warner Bros list, the studio is first setting its sights on a Wile E. Coyote movie, which will be crafted by writers Jon and Josh Silberman (Always Sunny In Philadelphia). The animated adventure will be titled Coyote vs Acme, and will involve the Roadrunner nemesis taking on the company he purchases his traps and weapons from. If it all goes according to plan, this would mark the first time in over two decades fans will get to see a Looney Tunes film on the big screen.
Doctor Who star joins Star Wars 9
Matt Smith, who once played Doctor Who has joined Star Wars 9 playing an undisclosed character. The addition of Smith certainly bodes well for the JJ Abrams’ production. To date the next Star Wars adventure will have a pretty formidable cast made up off names such as Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell and Dominic Monaghan. Smith is famously known for his portrayal of the Time Lord on Doctor Who and for playing Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown.
