Disney’s next live-action production, which is Mulan, is fast moving ahead with the signing of Chinese actress Liu Yifei in the starring role. The actress is a relative unknown in western cinema but she is a pretty established actress in Asia. YiFei recently starred in the fantasy romance, Once Upon a Time. Her other credits include The Forbidden Kingdom and The Assassins. Disney is eyeing Mulan for a 2019 release, so it will be interesting to see who gets cast in other roles soon, especially for the character of Mushu, Mulan’s dragon.
Franco & Hart To Host SNL
Saturday Night Live is going to close out the year with a bang with a packed host schedule for December. The headliners for the month are undoubtedly James Franco and Kevin Hart who are likely due to appear to promote their films. Franco’s The Disaster Artist has been tipped to be an awards contender while Hart’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will open in December. Also scheduled to host is Saoirse Ronan.
Captain Marvel New Additions
Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel project has landed some pretty big names in recent weeks. The standalone superheroine adventure with Brie Larson in the titular role has secured the talents of both Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn. Law will be portraying Mar-Vell, whilst Mendelsohn will keep to his villainous roots displayed in Rogue One by portraying the main antagonist in the film. Captain Marvel flies into cinemas in March 2019.
NBC Fires Matt Lauer
The fallout from the sexual assault cases that have been sweeping Hollywood continues. This time around, renowned and once well-respected newsman Matt Lauer has gotten the axe for inappropriate sexual behaviour against a female colleague. According to reports, the incident occurred during the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. Following the filed complaint, NBC fired Lauer immediately. The newsman and host of Today has been a part of the NBC family for over two decades.
Daisy Ridley Done With Star Wars After Episode IX
Being a key and central figure in this decade’s most anticipated film trilogy has not gone to Daisy Ridley’s head. The British actress, who plays Rey in the new Star Wars trilogy, will be looking to end her commitment with the franchise after the third and final instalment. “I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out,” she said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
Infinity War Trailer Shatters Records
Marvel has confirmed hit on its hands and it has been proven that fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. Fresh off the release of the trailer this week, the Marvel adventure claimed the title of most-viewed trailer over the span of 24 hours. The Infinity War trailer claimed 230 million views in a single day, eclipsing Andy Muschietti‘s IT, which earned 197 million views. The Marvel adventure will open worldwide in May 2018.
