In case you haven’t heard, director Ava DuVernay is directing a film based on the DC Comic book, The New Gods. In a recent social media post, she revealed a bit about the project and named Darkseid as well as the Female Furies as the villains of the film. It will be interesting to see who plays Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips, in the film especially considering he is the DC Universe’s big bad. He was teased to appear or at least be involved in Zack Snyder’s Justice League but that never came to past.

Lion King Roars To A Billion
Jon Favreau’s remake of The Lion King is doing ‘roaring’ business at the box-office. The
latest live-action film from Disney has crossed the USD1 billion mark, becoming
the sixth film in Disney’s live-action franchise to do so. Interestingly, it is
also the fourth film from Disney to breach the billion dollar barrier following
Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and Aladdin.
It will also likely not be the last with Toy
Story 4 still performing well in cinemas.

Joss
Whedon Produces Superhero Series For HBO
It looks like there will be no end to superhero
stories in cinemas and on television screens in the near future. HBO is also
getting in on the bandwagon with its Watchmen
series and The Nevers, which will be
produced and helmed by Joss Whedon. The series is based in the Victorian era
and will revolve around several women who have extraordinary abilities. The
series will star Laura Donnelly, Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Ben
Chaplin and Nick Frost.

Chris
Pine Is Walter Cronkite
The JFK Assassination drama, Newsflash has
signed on Chris Pine to portray Walter Cronkite in the film. Seth Rogen was
previously linked to the role. Newsflash
is set on the day of President Kennedy’s assassination and revolves around
Cronkite and the CBS team as they relay the tragic news on air. Starring
alongside Pine is Mark Ruffalo who is portraying CBS producer, Don Hewitt. The
film is set to begin production early next year.

Denis
Villeneuve’s Dune Delayed
Warner Bros has reshuffled its release slate of films for next year with the Dune remake by Denis Villeneuve being
pushed back a full month. The sci-fi film will now hit cinemas in mid-December
2020. This puts Dune in direct
competition with the Uncharted film
starring Tom Holland and Steven Spielberg’s West
Side Story. Dune features an ensemble cast made up off Zendaya, Rebecca
Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Javier
Bardem and Oscar Isaac.
