Fox has apparently got cold feet with regards to its upcoming Alita: Battle Angel adaptation. The film is now being pushed back from its summer release date to December 2018. The new date though will see the film clash against Aquaman and Bumblebee, the Transformers spinoff. Fox has also decided to delay its latest instalment to the Predator franchise. The Shane Black film will now open in cinemas in September, one full month later than its original release date.
John Wick Director To Helm Dark Fantasy Film
After setting his sights on the gritty underworld of hitmen and gangsters, director Chad Stahelski will now focus on Sandman Slim. Describes as a dark fantasy, the movie will be a direct adaptation of the fantasy book series and will be developed under Studio 8. The film will focus on the central character, who is a supernatural entity who escapes from hell to take revenge on the people who killed his girlfriend and those who put him in hell. Basically, just like John Wick but with demons.
New Willy Wonka Movie In The Works
Audiences will once again be transported into the realm of chocolates with another film centred on Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Director, Paul King who recently helmed Paddington is said to be the front runner for the project. If it all goes according to plan, this will be the second adaptation of the book, following the film starring Gene Wilder from 1971 and Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s offering from 2005.
Michael Fassbender Looks To Kung Fury
The madcap 80s action comedy short, Kung Fury is set to be made into a full length film and believe it or not it will feature Michael Fassbender. Creator David Sanberg will direct the film and will feature David Hasselhoff as well. Kung Fury became a cult phenomenon, largely due to its outlandish plot and campy settings. The film follows an 80s cop who battles robots, dinosaurs and Nazis and even Norse gods.
Den of Thieves Gets A Sequel
The Gerard Butler actioner, Den of Thieves will be getting a sequel believe it or not. The heist thriller slipped under the radar early this year and surprisingly delivered modestly on its box-office returns. The film starring Butler and Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson has reaped in USD60 million so far from a budget of just USD30million and this despite less than stellar reviews. Already profitable, with a full international rollout in the months ahead and its certainly not surprising to see why a sequel was mooted. The sequel will likely see the setting move to Europe with Butler’s character on the hunt for a new score.
Ready Player One Goes Old School 80s
The Steven Spielberg sci-fi, fantasy adventure, Ready Player One is already being touted to provide some cool nostalgic throwbacks. The first trailer was proof of that with Batman’s iconic Batmobile and Doc Brown’s DeLorean featuring in various clips. However the inventive people in marketing have gone a step further to furnish the film with a retro 80s style painted poster. Ready Player One is based in the future and centred around a video game that holds a vast fortune. The film stars, Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn and will open in cinemas in end March 2018.
