After several rumours and scenarios, Paramount Pictures has finally pulled the trigger on a new Star Trek movie. The next instalment of the franchise has practically navigated the Delta Quadrant, with many directors linked to the story.
Of course we have all heard of Quentin Tarantino being involved with his own take on the franchise. And then there was the highly anticipated take on bringing back Chris Hemsworth to the film, as part of a Kirk father-son reunion of sorts. However, those intriguing adventures haven’t panned out as much as fans hoped.
Now though it seems that Paramount has set a course for the new Star Trek movie with WandaVision’s Matt Shakman set to helm the new adventure. Many expect that it will bring back the cast of the rebooted Star Trek franchise by J.J. Abrams. But it is possible that the new film charts an entirely new course with a new crew.
Apparently, Paramount has a script in play already, penned by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel). Production for the film is also expected to begin imminently. As such it won’t be long for fans to find out if Chris Pine and team are back for another round of space adventures, or if Paramount decides on a new ship and crew for this new Star Trek movie.
That said, the franchise is in healthy shape on the smaller screen. Fans can look forward to new seasons of Picard and Discovery in the near future as well as Strange New Worlds with the original Enterprise crew led by Christopher Pike.
The new film is slated for an early June 2023 release.
