Be prepared to bask in a celebration of creativity, storytelling, and cultural diversity with the launch of the 2023 edition of the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF). The 34th Edition will be held from 30 November to 10 December. SGIFF is set to open its curtains to visitors by premiering Tiger Stripes by Amanda Nell Eu, winner of the Cannes Film Festival Critics’ Week Grand Prize and the first Malaysian film to be featured.
Alongside Tiger Stripes, the festival will also feature some of Malaysia’s greatest films by established local filmmakers such as Snow In Midsummer by Chong Keat Aun, Reading You by Angeline Teh Ying Han, and A Year Of No Significance by Kelvin Tong, where every frame tells the story of Malaysian cultural roots that is sure to resonate with the local audience.
This year, the festival proudly presents an unparalleled cinematic experience filled with record-breaking firsts, as well as a diverse selection of 101 films from 50 countries, showcasing the rich tapestry of international cinema.
“This year’s selection of films consists of a range of diverse voices, perspectives, and storytelling styles, promising audiences an even higher level of inclusion in its cinematic offerings. The carefully curated films, spanning various genres and originating from a multitude of countries, showcase the depth and breadth of global storytelling, solidifying SGIFF’s commitment to elevating the festival’s role in celebrating Asian films but also the wider world of filmmaking, where every voice and narrative finds a place to be appreciated and cherished.” said Thong Kay Wee, Programme Director, SGIFF.
