HBO is looking to kick-off a third and final season for its hit supernatural drama series, The Leftovers. After two seasons, and a slow build in ratings and fan base, the series has certainly made a strong case for itself to continue for a third run.
The Leftovers revolves around the sudden disappearance of over a million people, which leaves the rest of humanity not only picking up the pieces but also struggling to find answers. The series is based on the novel by Tom Perrotta and is headlined by Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Liv Tyler and Christopher Eccleston.
According to showrunner Damon Lindelof, the renewal is an exciting piece of news as he and his team of storytellers can now bring The Leftovers to a definitive end.
“On behalf of our incredible crew and superb cast, we are all tremendously grateful that HBO is giving us an opportunity to conclude the show on our own terms…an opportunity like this one rarely comes along, and we have every intention of living up to it, he said in the official statement. “We feel absolutely privileged to heat up one last helping of leftovers.”
The Leftovers season 3 is currently in development.
