It’s been quite a wait but Warner Bros. has finally revealed the first trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which is set to arrive in December. Sci-fans are expecting a lot from this updated remake, which has been adapted from the beloved sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert.
A lot is riding on this new take, especially with Villeneuve himself coming off a string of impressive films, the likes of Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. Judging by the first trailer, it looks as if the director is par for course in delivering yet another impressive story.
Dune is a mythical and emotionally charged hero’s journey, centred on Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.
As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
Timothée Chalamet leads the film as Atreides with Rebecca Ferguson starring as Lady Jessica Atreides, Oscar Issac as Duke Leto Atreides, Stephen Mckinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and Zendaya as Chani.
The supporting cast is made up off with Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Vladimir, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Dr. Liet Kynes, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, Charlotte Rampling as Bene Gesserit, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.
Dune is currently set for a December 2020 release, but don’t be surprised if we see this one being pushed back a bit due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
