Warner Bros. has given fans a first look at the Snyder cut of the Justice League, which will arrive on HBO Max next year. Fans have been clamouring for the director’s original vision of the film ever since the Justice League film arrived in cinemas in 2017.
The DC superhero ensemble film received a less than stellar reception at the cinemas and despite its decent box-office haul, it wasn’t the sizeable hit Warner Bros. was hoping for. Part of the blame is on Joss Whedon who was roped in by the studio to ‘finish’ the film following Snyder’s absence following a family tragedy.
The end result was a film with disjointed storytelling and questionable special effects. But now it seems that those issues may well have been resolved with HBO Max footing the bill for a Snyder Cut of the film. USD30 million has been spent to restore the original vision of the director and according to reports, none of the footage shot by Whedon will be used in the film.
HBO Max will screen Justice League as a mini-series as opposed to a full length film. The first trailer for the film does pique a lot of interest with some never before seen scenes. The original cast remains the same with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg.
Ciaran Hinds provides the voice for Steppenwolf and there is also the appearance of Darkseid in the film. It will be interesting to see how big a role the big bad from Apokolips will have to play in this revised superhero adventure. Check out the trailer for the Snyder Cut of the Justice League below and let’s keep our fingers crossed this second chance is as promising as it looks.
