Horror films that allude to a ‘true story’ have the perfect formula to legitimately send shivers down our spines. This April, fans of horror will get to see Russell Crowe bring one of these tales to the big screen in The Pope’s Exorcist.
Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican (Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe), the film follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession. As he tends to the matter at end, he ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.
Directed by Julius Avery, The Pope’s Exorcist is based on the books “An Exorcist Tells His Story” and “An Exorcist: More Stories” by Fr. Gabriele Amorth. Joining Crowe in bringing Father’s Amorth story to the big screen are Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, Laurel Marsden, Cornell S. John and Franco Nero.
The Sony Pictures film is slated to arrive in cinemas sometime in mid-April 2023. Check out the trailer below for a terrifying first look.
