The Enterprise may have some trouble leaving space dock for its next adventure now that Roberto Orci has vacated the director’s chair. Even more shocking is the revelation that Orci’s script for the sequel could be the main reason for his departure and that Paramount Pictures is also dumping the initial draft of the story too.
This can’t be good news for Star Trek fans as this could delay the sequel’s initial release date of 2016. However, the good news is that the studio isn’t resting on its laurels finding a new man to helm the franchise and they’re scouting Edgar Wright for the job.
According to Badass Digest who broke the story, the original Star Trek 3 script involved a three-way race between the crew of the Enterprise, a crew of a Vulcan ship and a new alien race for time travel device. Apparently the story will focus on the Vulcans wanting the device in order to prevent the destruction of their planet. Time travel paradox was said to be the element that would allow the two Kirk’s from past and present to interact with each other.
By all accounts, that story doesn’t sound half bad. But apparently it didn’t sit well with the big wigs at Paramount. Production of the Star Trek 3 is currently under hiatus.
