Malaysian fans of Roald Dahl can breathe a sigh of relief as the highly-anticipated film, Roald Dahl’s The Witches, will finally be making its way to Malaysia premiering exclusively on streaming service HBO GO and On Demand on Astro on Friday, 29 January.
The release straight to HBO GO for this theatrical film will enable Malaysian viewers to enjoy the classic tale from the comfort of their own homes especially during these challenging pandemic times.
Reimagining author Dahl’s beloved story for a modern audience, Robert Zemeckis, the Oscar-winning director and master storyteller who gave us Forrest Gump, the Christmas classic The Polar Express, and the Back to the Future trilogy, the film tells the darkly humorous and heart-warming tale of a young orphaned boy who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis.
As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her evil plans to turn the world’s children into mice.
The film stars Oscar winners Anne Hathaway, and Octavia Spencer, Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci, with Kristin Chenoweth and award-winning comedy legend Chris Rock.
HBO GO is available on Android TV, Apple TV, LG TV, Samsung Smart TV – and comes with AirPlay and Google Cast functionality. Astro On Demand is available to all customers via the Ultra box or the Astro GO app. Additionally, Astro Movie Pack customers can enjoy HBO GO access at no additional charge.
