With the surge of popularity behind the Pokemon Go, it’s not surprising that a Pokemon live-action movie is now being planned. It looks like Legendary Pictures has closed a deal with The Pokemon Group to produce a film based on the iconic and popular video game characters.
The Pokemon live-action movie will be based on material centred on Detective Pikachu. Those familiar with the Great Detective Pikachu game, which this is based on will know that the film could be a part mystery, part detective type treatment.
Pokemon has been an impressive phenomenon ever since it was introduced two decades ago. The most recent game, cemented the franchise’s popularity amongst the masses, and this is why we’re getting a movie.
Still, a Pokemon live-action movie could sputter at the box-office, if it does not do the characters justice. In previous years, films adapted from material such as Dragon Ball Z came under heavy fire and criticism, to the point fans shied away from cinemas.
The same could happen for this one, which is why fans should cross their fingers for Legendary to do Pikachu and his friends’ justice. The project is currently being fast tracked to start production sometime in 2017.
