We’re not sure that a Pirates of the Caribbean movie would work without Captain Jack Sparrow, but it seems that Disney thinks otherwise. In a recent interview, Disney chief Sean Bailey confirmed that the studio intends to continue the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise without the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow, which was brought to life by Johnny Depp.
To be fair, Depp helped build the franchise to what is today and despite the last film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, being the least profitable of the franchise, it still managed to rake in a respectable USD600 million worldwide. Evidently that blemish has convinced the big wigs at Disney that the franchise needs a new Captain at the helm.
Rumours prevail that the new Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will feature a new female lead, which will presumably be the character Redd. The female pilot has been pushed recently in Disney theme parks, which hint a bigger role on the cinematic screen for the near future.
