After much speculation, it would seem that Lucasfilm has finally agreed to pull the trigger on an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone adventure. The move seems to make sense as the Jedi Master is one of the most popular and important characters in the Star Wars universe.
First portrayed by the late Alec Guinness in the original trilogy and then later Ewan McGregor in the Star Wars prequels, Obi-Wan has always had an important role to play in both franchises.
A movie on his adventures following the events of Revenge of the Sith will likely be a good start for the standalone film, especially since his self-imposed exile on Tatooine to watch over Luke Skywalker. Plus the character has also appeared in several episodes of the Star Wars Rebels animated series as well.
It is also being rumoured that Obi-Wan may have some connection to Rey and this film could provide that linkage. Plus McGregor would undoubtedly be game for another run at playing the Jedi Master and he would be the right age to portray an older and much wiser Obi-Wan as well.
According to reports, Lucasfilm is looking at Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliott, The Hours) to helm the Obi-Wan Kenobi film. The studio is also being heavily rumoured to develop standalone projects for Yoda as well as Boba Fett as well.
