There has been numerous rumours and reports about the fate of Star Trek but now it seems there is a new film in the works after all. Names such as Quentin Tarantino and Noah Hawley have been linked to a Star Trek film, but none has so far panned out.
Star Trek: Beyond underperformed at the box-office, despite of it being pretty good – in our opinion at least, which has left the movie franchise in limbo. Now however, it seems that a new film in the franchise is being mooted and it could be one destined for streaming.
The beloved sci-fi franchise has enjoyed a bit of a renaissance thanks to Netflix and Amazon, which are satisfying Trekkies with shows such as Star Trek: Discovery and Picard. According to a report in Deadline, writer Kalinda Vazquez who penned several episodes of Discovery as well as Walking Dead has been tapped to write a new Star Trek film.
Now whether this is a continuation of JJ Abrams’ rebooted film series or a Discovery-skewed adventure is entirely up for speculation. There is a good chance it could be a whole new adventure with a whole new crew, which could also make sense. There is a distinctive possibility that the new film could be Paramount+ exclusive film as well.
