The Dave Bautista action comedy, My Spy produced by STX, will now go directly to Amazon Prime Video. The studio reportedly sold the spy comedy to the streaming service in order to recuperate some of the revenue due to cinemas being shuttered across the globe.
My Spy is directed by Peter Segal and sees Bautista starring as a CIA operative named JJ who is on a surveillance mission, where he crosses paths with a precocious 9-year-old girl named Sophie played by Chloe Coleman. The two soon strike a temporary bond, where Sophie agrees not to expose his cover in exchange for JJ schooling her in the art of spying.
Joining both Bautista and Coleman in this action comedy are Kristen Schaal and Ken Jeong. My Spy is the latest film to forgo its theatrical release to go straight to streaming. Paramount Pictures also sold the rights to its comedy, The Lovebirds starring Kumail Nanjiani to Netflix, whilst Disney opted to release its production Artemis Fowl on Disney+.
