Disney+ Hotstar has been in Malaysia for a year. The arrival of the Disney streamer has certainly levelled up the streaming market in the country. But after a year, we all wonder what audiences have watched on the service. Fortunately the Disney+ Hotstar streaming charts by JustWatch has provided the answers.
When it comes to movies, there’s a mix bag of genres that audiences gravitated towards. Not surprising it was superheroes that dominate the Disney+ Hotstar streaming charts after one year. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings fought its way to the top followed by Matthew Vaughn’s The King’s Man.
Marvel Studios’ Eternals, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow rounded up the top five. Subscribers also gravitated towards animated movies. Disney productions of Turning Red (6), Raya and the Last Dragon (8) and Encanto (9) made the list. Ryan Reynolds’ video game action comedy Free Guy notched up the seventh spot with the live-action remake of Cruella at number ten.
When it comes to TV shows you would normally expect a slew of either Star Wars or Marvel hits topping the streaming charts of Disney+ Hotstar. However according to JustWatch, the top spot belongs to Grey’s Anatomy after one year.
Evidently subscribers to Disney+ Hotstar love the medical drama, to the point of it surpassing Marvel Studios’ productions such as WandaVision, Loki and Moon Knight. Fan favourite zombie series, The Walking Dead eased into the top five ahead of 911, the Marvel animated series What If…? and Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. The last two spots in the top ten belong to classic sci-fi series, Lost and 9-1-1: Lone Star.
