The next season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will see the series venturing into supernatural territory with the arrival of the Ghost Rider. The good news is he won’t be played by Nicolas Cage, the bad news it won’t be Johnny Blaze either.
The Ghost Rider fans will see in the upcoming series will be the character of Robbie Reyes and he’ll be behind the wheel of a muscle car as opposed to a motorcycle. Long-time fans might not be too chuffed to see Blaze be replaced but the Reyes character isn’t an incarnation of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series. In fact he appears as the Ghost Rider in the Marvel NO! comic series. ‘
Played by Gabriel Luna, the Ghost Rider will be appearing in season four of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in an episode titled ‘The Ghost. At this point of time, no word yet on how extensive the Ghost Rider character will be used on the series.
Ghost Rider was featured in two films starring Nicolas Cage, which were less than stellar productions. Hopefully the new incarnation of the character on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might give the dark superhero his due. Unless of course Netflix gets in on the action and produces an original Johnny Blaze series sometime down the road.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs in the US at the end of September.
