Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for The Protégé, starring Maggie Q as a highly skilled assassin out for revenge. It sounds and feels a bit like a female version of John Wick, which is fine by our book. Plus its got some pretty impressive talents behind and in front of the camera.
The Protégé is directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and co-starring Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton. Rescued as a child by the legendary assassin Moody (Jackson) and trained in the family business, Anna (Maggie Q) is the world’s most skilled contract killer.
But when Moody – the man who was like a father to her and taught her everything she needs to know about trust and survival – is brutally killed, Anna vows revenge. As she becomes entangled with an enigmatic killer (Keaton) whose attraction to her goes way beyond cat and mouse. When their confrontation turns deadly, the loose ends of a life spent killing will weave themselves even tighter.
The Protégé also stars Robert Patrick, and it arrives in cinemas in August 2021. Check out the trailer below.
