Danish actor, Mads Mikkelsen has officially been cast as Gellert Grindelwald in David Yates’ Fantastic Beasts 3. Mikkelsen will step into the shoes of Johnny Depp who has left the production due to his on-going off-screen legal issues with ex-wife Amber Heard.
Warner Bros. made the announcement of the actor officially joining the Fantastic Beasts franchise. IT should be noted that Mikkelsen is the third actor to portray the character in the Fantastic Beasts series following Colin Farrell in the first instalment. Depp made a brief appearance as Grindelwald in the first film and further fleshed out the character in Fantastic Beasts 2.
Mikkelsen will be joined alongside returning stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller and Jude Law, who plays Dumbledore, in the upcoming sequel. Fantastic Beasts 3 is due to arrive sometime in summer 2022.
