The live-action franchise has proved profitable for Disney and they’re looking to capitalise on it in a big way with The Lion King. The beloved animated classic is the latest property that will be given the live-action treatment at the studios.
Fresh off his impressive effort in The Jungle Book, director Jon Favreau will be handed the reins of The Lion King. And to ensure the project will rank up there with the classic cartoon, he has recruited a rather familiar face to help him out.
Veteran actor James Earl Jones will be returning to voice Mufasa in the film and this will no doubt appease fans. Rising star Donald Glover will be taking on the role of the adult Simba in the film. Both casting calls were made official by Favreau on his official Twitter account.
The live-action treatment of The Lion King is currently in pre-production stage with no further cast members or film release dates being announced as yet. The animated classic is considered one of Disney’s best original films and it has even spawned a successful Broadway Musical.
