Hoaxes are part and parcel of culture, fuelled no doubt by the media. One can’t help but recall how Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds radio broadcast, fooled many to believe earth was being invaded by aliens. Now, a new UK film uncovers the shocking truth behind one of the craziest internet hoaxes of all time. This is Lion vs The Little People.
Believe it or not, in 2005, a hoax news post masquerading as a bonafide BBC news website article, announced a fight had taken place between a lion and an army of forty two fighting dwarfs.
The hoax spread like wildfire across the internet before being, eventually accepted to be fake. While the article’s veracity in the public eye was diminished, the myth however very much lives on hidden in the deep web.
Although not as significant as War of the Worlds, Lion vs The Little People nevertheless holds its own place in the annals of pop culture history. It is after all, a film about truth, survival, and tiny wrestlers. Directed and produced by Raphael Warner, the film stars Leigh Gill, George Appleby, Jimmy Vee, Ben Goffe, Anthony Barclay, Corey Johnson, Ako Mitchell, Nadia Albina and Linda Thorson.
The film is scheduled for release on 16 December 2022.
