Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World has just surpassed The Avengers to take third spot on the all-time box-office charts. Currently, the dino-sequel is tallying up a total box-office gross of over USD1.522 billion, which is a smudge over Marvel’s The Avengers which recorded USD1.520 billion previously.
However, Jurassic World still has a ways to go to usurp the top two behemoths at the top – Titanic and Avatar, which are sitting pretty with USD2.186 billion and USD2.788 billion respectively. Still despite facing a tall order to reach the top of the box-office charts, the Jurassic Park sequel already has chomped its way into the record books in more ways than one.
The film took the opening weekend record with a massive USD208.8 million and it followed up that feat with a second weekend record and it also became the highest grossing IMAX film as well. Impressive to say the least considering no one saw the true potential of the film prior to its opening in cinemas this summer.
Still, despite the huge numbers being racked up and the fact that it’s still raking in the dollars at the box-office after a month of its release, Jurassic World could lose its records by the end of the year. Pundits are tracking Star Wars: The Force Awakens to erase what Jurassic World has accomplished when it opens later this year. And that’s something no one would bet against either.
