The Japanese Film Festival 2016 is set to light up selected Golden Screen Cinemas nationwide, once again boasting a broad collection of current and acclaimed titles across a variety of genres. Featuring an eclectic line-up of crowd-pleasing blockbusters, laugh-out-loud comedies, award winners and the quintessential arthouse gem, the 13th edition of Malaysia’s premier Japanese film celebration promises old favourites and new discoveries for audiences of all palates.
The event will hold its initial run in the Klang Valley from the 8th to the 14th of September at GSC Mid Valley, GSC Pavilion KL, GSC 1 Utama and a new venue, GSC NU Sentral. Penang (GSC Gurney Plaza on 15–18 September) is next on the agenda, followed by Kuching (GSC CityONE Megamall on 22–25 September) and finally Kota Kinabalu (GSC Suria Sabah on 29 September–2 October)
Having invited renowned director Masato Harada to last year’s instalment, The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur has upped the ante by bringing in legendary actress KIKI Kilin. The three-time Japan Academy Prize-winner, who enjoys a glowing reputation for her wise and matronly roles, will attend the opening ceremony at GSC Pavilion KL on 6th September to present her film After the Storm, as well as a special preview of An at GSC Mid Valley on 7th September.
Other films slated to be screened include, An, Bakuman, The Boy and the Beast, Creepy, Chihayafuru Part 1, Chihayafuru Part 2, Desperate Sunflowers, Flying Colours, The Magnificent Nine, The Mohican Comes Home, My Love Story!! and What a Wonderful Family!. All films are presented in Japanese with English subtitles.
