True Lies is undoubtedly one of most beloved action blockbusters of the 90s. Directed by James Cameron, the film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a top secret U.S. spy whose undercover life is discovered by his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis).
Forced to work together, they have to put their differences aside to help stop a terrorist from destroying Los Angeles. The premise of True Lies was intriguing to say the least and coupled with Cameron’s unique vision, it made for a highly-entertaining cinematic romp.
Those elements are now being replicated for the small screen by CBS who has produced a TV series based on the blockbuster film. True Lies follows Harry Tasker (Steve Howey), a first-class international spy for U.S. intelligence agency Omega Sector, and his wife, Helen (Ginger Gonzaga), a language professor bored with her daily routine, who makes the shocking discovery that her seemingly ordinary husband is leading an extraordinary double life.
With the secret out, Omega recruits Helen, who impresses everyone with her formidable skills, and she joins Harry and his team of top-notch operatives, embarking on covert missions around the globe and an exhilarating life of danger and adventure – all while keeping their adventures a secret from their children.
The renewed bond between them adds much-needed sizzle to the Taskers’ emotionally distant marriage and upends the top-secret world of Omega Sector. But, as Harry says, if you’re going to save the world, you might as well do it for the ones you love.
Joining Howey and Gonzaga in the series are Omar Miller, Jackson Hurst, Erica Hernandez and Matthew Lillard. The trailer, which you can view here also includes Tom Arnold, who starred in the original film. The series is due to air on CBS starting 1 March 2023.
