Universal Pictures is ramping up its efforts to kick-start its monster movie franchise and they’re courting some notable stars for it too. This move likely means the studio is viewing this monster project as a highly-profitable franchise, and it looks like they’re willing to open the cheque books to sign actors such as Javier Bardem to the project.
The Oscar-winning actor is the latest actor who has been linked to the franchise, with rumours circulating that he’s been courted to take on the mantle of Frankenstein himself. If Bardem does indeed sign on the dotted line, then he will certainly be in good company following other big names that have joined this monster project, which will remake classic horror properties.
Thus far, Universal Pictures has secured Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Johnny Depp. Cruise will feature in The Mummy with Crowe starring as Dr. Jekyll whilst Depp is set to become the Invisible Man. There are also several films in the pipeline at present at the studios, which includes films based on The Wolfman and Bride of Frankenstein as well.
The Mummy is scheduled for release in summer 2017 with The Invisible Man slated to be released a year later.
