Looks like Henry Cavill has secured another franchise with a starring role in the new Highlander reboot. The film currently in development at Lionsgate will be helmed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick).
The Highlander franchise was an 80s cult classic starring Christopher Lambert in the starring role. It also co-starred the late Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. The film told the story of sword-wielding immortals who do battle throughout the ages.
They seek each other out to engage in battle, with the victor having to decapitate his opponent. The series spawned several films as well as TV series. Lambert was the lead character in the film starring as Connor MacLeod. Connery served as his mentor, Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez with Brown playing the antagonist, Kurgan.
A Do Over?
Not much is known about the new Highlander reboot or if Cavill will take on the mantle of MacLeod. Still having his involvement plus Stahelski’s does seem intriguing. The actor is no stranger to sword and sorcery epics, especially with his involvement in The Witcher series with Netflix.
In a social media post confirming the role, Cavill admits he is excited to be a part of the production. He also reveals to being a big fan of the original series. Although the Highlander reboot is currently still in development, fans can still see the actor wielding swords soon enough.
The second season of The Witcher has already wrapped and is scheduled to arrive later this year. Cavill reprises his role as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series. As far as his involvement with another major franchise, that remains up in the air.
Nevertheless, we think it will be only a matter of time before Cavill will be donning the iconic blue and red spandex for Warner Bros once again. After all, we can’t see anyone more perfect to portray the Man of Steel.
