Multi-award winning prod-co Beach House Pictures (BHP) together with leading Malaysian producer Kyanite TV, join forces with Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, UKTV, the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and Perbadan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (FINAS), to create one of the most hotly anticipated TV series of the year – “Borneo”.
With unprecedented access to the most remote regions of the world’s third largest island, “Borneo” will explore its stunning tropical landscape, rich biodiversity and follow the colourful cast of human characters from different backgrounds, nationalities and cultures, united in a battle to uncover, understand and protect the world icon.
Crew members will spend months in the field to film the 10-part half hour series. Applying the latest in filmmaking technology – from aerial photography to underwater cameras – to capture never-before-seen images of Borneo, revealing not only the beauty of the island but also the reality of frontier living.
BHP and Kyanite TV partnered up with a wide range of local organizations, from the government-run Sabah Parks and Sarawak Forestry Department, to international research units and wildlife rescue centers, to make this series a reality.
Dato’ Kamil Othman, Director General of FINAS also added “FINAS has always encouraged film makers to take advantage of the diversity in Malaysia as backdrop to their storytelling, not only about the people but also the flora and fauna which Mother Nature has bestowed upon our great nation. It is therefore with great pleasure that we see documentary projects like BORNEO materializing and pushing the boundaries of the stories we can show and tell to the world.”
“We are very excited to join forces with specialists from the industry to share the untold Borneo story to a wider audience,” said Charmaine Kwan, Head of Products, Southeast Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific. “Through this co-production, we hope to showcase multi-faceted Borneo by giving it the scale and distribution it truly deserves.”
Angeline Poh, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Industry Group (MDA) added, “We are delighted to see BHP’s partnership with Kyanite TV, Discovery Networks Asia, UKTV and FINAS taking flight, with the production of the “Borneo” series. Not only will the crew get up close with the indigenous wildlife of Borneo in this exciting project, they will also have opportunities to hone their craft using the latest production technology.
We are confident in BHP’s abilities to produce quality factual content and we hope this partnership will pave the way for more Singapore media companies to collaborate with both regional and international partners.”
