FOX Entertainment is considering bringing a live-action X-Men series to life according to a recent report. Apparently, there are ongoing talks between FOX and rights holders Marvel to bring an X-Men focused series to television in the near future.
“It’s in negotiations. We’re cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them (Marvel),” commented FOX Entertainment Chairman Gary Newman in a recent interview with TV Insider. However, Newman admitted that a TV series might not happen so soon. “That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative.”
The possibility of an X-Men series, although enticing, may not be straightforward as fans would think as there is a fine line between the rights to use these comic book characters. 20th Century FOX holds the rights to develop the X-Men cinematic universe and nothing else. For FOX to develop an X-Men series, they would likely need to co-develop the project with Marvel.
Another issue that could plague the series (in a good way) is the rich source of material that is available. The X-Men universe is vast and wide and FOX could be spoilt for choice to adapt any title to make up the centrepiece of the X-Men TV Universe.
Let’s wait and see how this one develops…
