X-Men: Apocalypse was a major disappointment and one wonders if X-Men: Dark Phoenix will buck the trend of this mutant franchise. On the back of both Deadpool and Logan, the third instalment to the rebooted X-Men franchise flustered with less than stellar box-office and critical expectations.
However the next instalment to the mutant franchise could deliver a way to course correct the X-Men series. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, fans now have a first look at the upcoming sequel, which will hit theatres in November 2018.
Keeping with the trend of First Class, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix will take place in the 90s. The storyline as the title suggests will revolve around Phoenix/Jean Grey, which showcased her immense power at the end of Apocalypse, by defeating the big bad.
The first series of images released by EW revealed a new look for Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique as well as a first look at Jessica Chastain’s mysterious character. The new film will see new stars take their place alongside established ones, which will likely pave the way for the passing of the torch for future films.
Lawrence will be reunited with Nicholas Hoult, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender with Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp. X-Men: Dark Phoenix comes to cinemas in early November 2018.
