If you’re a child of the 1980s, you will remember Firestarter. The film starred Drew Barrymore as a child who develops pyrokinetic capabilities. Now nearly four decades later, the film will finally be remade and by Blumhouse no less.
Zac Efron has been cast in the lead of the new film, which is based off the Stephen King classic novel. In a recent post on social media, the studio revealed the production is well on track with a behind-the-scenes shot of pyrotechnic stunt.
Efron is starring as Andy McGee, the father of Sharlene, a small girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities. However, they are soon pursued by a secret government agency who intends to weaponize the girl and her abilities.
In the original film, Barrymore portrayed Sharlene McGee. The new Firestarter film is currently in production with no release date yet.
