It looks like Disney is open to the idea of having more R-Rated Deadpool movies, once their takeover of FOX is complete. In a recent Disney Q1 earnings call, CEO Bob Iger mentioned that they were still open to the idea.
“We see that there is certainly popularity amongst Marvel fans for the R-rated Deadpool films,” Iger said. “We’re going to continue in that business and there might be room for more of that.”
Disney going the R-rated route, especially for some of its properties does seem intriguing, especially as they’ve done impressive business in recent years. Deadpool is perhaps the most fitting example raking in well over USD700 million at the box-office with its sequel repeating that feat. Logan, another great example, raked in over USD600 million during its run.
Most likely, it would seem that if Disney were to set forth on any R-Rated projects, they would likely be from its superhero franchise. A good example would be the New Mutants, which is currently still being retooled. The horror/superhero film is currently on hold, likely to be released only once Disney’s legal takeover of FOX is complete.
