The Walt Disney Company is looking to capitalise on its Star Wars property with the creation of a new section in Disneyland, which is inspired by the film franchise. According to a recent report, Disney is looking to expand its Star Wars presence in Disneyland, Anaheim with a themed section.
Disney CEO, Bob Iger commented on this new exciting project at the recent D23 Expo. “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever,” he said in his statement. “These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
But in order to expand the theme park, Disneyland will undergo some massive changes and that includes the closing of certain sections and attractions at the park itself. According to reports, attractions such as Big Thunder will be on the chop block whilst mainstay attractions like the Disneyland Railroad, Tom Sawyer Island and Mark Twain Riverboat/Sailing Ship Columbia will be suspended temporarily to facilitate the building.
The Disney Star Wars expansion will involve a new Star Tours ride as well as an attraction themed on the Millennium Falcon, which will reportedly put fans on a customizable secret mission.
