Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific today announced a content partnership with Viddsee, where select content from Discovery will be available online for the first time in the region, starting with films from the channel’s First Time Filmmakers (FTFM) initiative.
Fans will now be able to view the full-length documentaries on mobile, as Discovery continues to diversify its product offering, engage new audiences, and make content more accessible in a multi-platform environment.
The Discovery FTFM showcase on Viddsee will launch this month, kicking off with Singapore Stories and Super Japan. Other titles include Nanjing Calling, Korea Next and FTFM Vietnam. FTFM aims to foster local filmmaking talent and help support the local documentary filmmaking industry. The films are available at www.viddsee.com/discovery from 1 June 2016.
Viddsee is an entertainment platform with award-winning short films that reaches millennials through its community-based approach to content distribution. Its daily curation of short films is distributed and marketed to online communities on its social, web and mobile platform. As a product, it is designed to encourage discovery, and to engage users with stories that matter to them.
Films that will be released include:
Singapore Stories (5×30’)
Singapore Stories is a series of five documentaries by budding Singaporean filmmakers in commemoration of Singapore’s 50th birthday. From a daily battle with birds on Orchard Road, urban farming, and the art of card flourishing; to a celebration of one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates and the creation of the nation’s first-ever marine park, these films capture stories of an emerging Singapore, confident of its next stage as a nation that is just entering its 50th year of independence.
Super Japan (5×30’)
Super Japan celebrates Japan’s evolution into the global powerhouse it is today. Free-diving female Ama divers – a culture that dates back 5,000 years; the extremely efficient Tokyo Metro system that is astonishingly punctual; the fixation on ramen; the globalisation and worldwide influence of J-POP; ingenious construction technologies and their invaluable contributions to the world – the series documents the country’s progressions and obsessions, and pays tribute to some of the things that make it Super Japan.
Nanjing Calling (5×30’)
These five thought-provoking films explore how Nanjing pulls off the delicate balancing act of supporting and growing technology and tradition, encouraging continuity and innovation, and celebrating its past and its future, as it prepares to host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. Nanjing Calling introduces the dynamic city to the world and uncovers the real stories that show how the ancient capital has emerged in the 21st century.
Korea Next (5×30’)
Go beyond the beaten tourist trails and experience the real Land of the Morning Calm on KOREA NEXT through five documentaries by the winners of Discovery Channel’s First Time Filmmakers (FTFM) Korea. The premiere works of passionate first time international film producers, KOREA NEXT unravels the next chapter of the ‘Korean dream’ in the 21st century, and exposes the true essence of the country at the confluence of an amazing multiplicity, where natural beauty, traditions, cultures, religions, festivals, lifestyles, music, movies and television all merge seamlessly with technology.
First Time Filmmakers Vietnam (4×30’)
First-time Filmmakers Vietnam delivers the authentic visions of local independent filmmakers as they explore unique stories of modernization and change in one of Asia’s fastest developing societies.
